Nebraska's move to Big Ten came after quiet meetings, bargaining and a mutual attraction

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Nebraska was a longtime Big 12 member and had no problems with how the league operated. So why are the Cornhuskers headed to the Big Ten Conference?

According to the Omaha World-Herald, it's a case of mutual attraction. Nebraska wasn't an early target of Big Ten officials last year and Nebraska wasn't looking for a new home. But when Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman spoke with people in the Big Ten and after a May 25 meeting that included Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany, Nebraska was charmed. And the Big Ten had a new target.

From the Omaha World-Herald's Big Red Today blog:

To this day, Perlman, Osborne and Delany won't say where they met on May 25. Perlman will describe it only as “a very remote private location'' far from both Big Ten country and Nebraska. It's a secret, Perlman said, because the Big Ten may use it for future business.

For whatever reason Nebraska joined I'm glad for it. I think it's a win, win situation not to mention the money and tradition Nebraska brings to the table. Mich. has had a little thing going with Nebraska and doesn't that sea of red look great in a stadium?
