No worries about Michigan, say Western Michigan's newly installed starting offensive lineman

By AnnArbor.com Staff

A pair of junior college transfer offensive linemen will start for Western Michigan when the Broncos face the Michigan football team Saturday in Michigan Stadium (3:30 p.m., ABC).

Neither sound concerned that their first game is coming against a Big Ten opponent even though both are starting only because of injuries to center Kevin Galeher and left guard Greg Peterson, the Kalamazoo Gazette reported.

"I came to play,” said Deon Cammock, a 6-foot-6, 342-pound sophomore eligibility-wise and native of Washington D.C., who played last season at ASA College in Brooklyn, N.Y. “It gives us a better opportunity to progress faster. Not that we wanted the guys to get injured. We know we need them.”

Kasimili Uitalia, a 6-foot-2, 292-pound American Somoan who played the last two years at Los Angeles Valley College, said the 100,000-plus crowd at Michigan Stadium won't bother him.

“I don’t really care about all the people," Uitalia said. “I just want to play for the team. I know there will be a lot of people there, but I don’t worry about it.”

The headline is purposely inflammatory, albeit not to a great amount.

WMU has 342 lb reserve linemen??? This just emphasizes how undersized M had become under the RR 'smurf' era. It will take a few years to build a respectable team that won't be physically mauled like we were at times last year. RR kept saying he wanted a fast team --- well they may have been fast, but they were running for their lives out there in the face of power teams.

We must respect our oppenents but some of these guys don't know what they are in for; the Big House FULLl of enthusiastic fans. Then a new Michigan team with something to prove. Last time they were here, Rich Rod's team gave 'em quite a spanking. I would not expect any less punishment from the Maize and Blue this year. Let's hope Western limps off the field at the end of the game.

The article title is a little misleading. They aren't worried about playing in a game. It wouldn't make a difference who their opponents were, they were commenting on starting. Whether they feel like they'll be challenged or not by Michigan's defense is a subject that isn't even broached in the article as posted.

These are proper and appropriate comments by those two fellows. It doesn't sound particularly arrogant. They're not predicting a WMU victory. It's just two players who are saying they're going to focus on their part of the game.
