Offensive lineman Jake Fisher commits to Michigan football program

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Jake Fisher, a 6-foot-7, 268-pound offensive lineman at Traverse City West High School, announced Sunday that he will accept a scholarship offer from Michigan, The Traverse City Record-Eagle reported.

"He called Rich Rodriguez personally," Titans coach Tim Wooer told The Record-Eagle. "He made him sweat a little bit. We told him we'd call at 8:30 p.m., but it wasn't until about 8:50 p.m. that we called. But it was a good night for Jake, a good night for Michigan and a good night for TC West."

Fisher also attracted interest from Michigan State, Cincinnati, Central Michigan and several other Mid-American Conference schools.

I checked him out myself (by the net) and think he is a very good athlete. His athletism is his strong point and he has a lot of room to grow. MSU,CMU, Akron wanted him for defense(DL) and everyone else had him as an O-lineman because they ran a spread. RR gets very few cool-points from me but he just got a handful for this pick. Though, being new to the position he may turn out really well.

After four dominant camp performances, Scout gave him 4 stars and has him as the 6th best prospect in Michigan and 24th rated OT in the nation. Not bad for a TE just learning the tackle position this summer. Look for his stock to go up even further during his senior season! Hopefully RR can keep him committed!

rightmind and blue If Jake had chosen Mich State, I assume you would have said Dantonio is a better coach and can recruit better? "RR lost out on that one"? We are a numbers addicted society. Those numbers are assigned by someone(?) based on what(?), we're not really sure. Oh we've read some stuff but we're not hanging out with number guys. We don't know how much their personal feelings are linked to these evaluations. I assume they look at weight, height, speed in the forty, etc, etc. Still it is based on the students last season he played. Everyone developes and peaks at different rates and times. I don't think the coaches are as hung up on numbers assigned to a player as much as how will he fit and how will he contribute, (and how soon). Even so its nice to see five star players instead of two stars.

The same people ( in this case rightmind and blue) who always complain about RR, lack the ability to understand that this is a great recruit, and again expose themselves of having no understanding of anything to do with the game of football. More proof the opinions of those who have a problem with RRs program, mean nothing.

Not sure how much sweating coach Rod was doing over a middling 3-star when there are so many other O-linemen on the radar. Tone it dow, Wooer.

Richrod stole another one from the MAC. At least we can compete with Toledo in recruiting.
