Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, Michigan State linebacker Greg Jones named Big Ten best players

By Michael Rothstein

CHICAGO - Terrelle Pryor led the Ohio State football team to victory in the Rose Bowl in January. That win, coupled with the Buckeyes' domination of the Big Ten the past half-decade led to an obvious choice Monday.

Pryor was named the Big Ten Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season and the Buckeyes were, again, chosen to win the league by a panel of the media.

Michigan State linebacker Greg Jones, one of the best defensive players in the country a year ago, was named the preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season.

Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor was named the Big Ten's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year on Monday.

It is the first time since 1998 that the offensive and defensive Players of the Year were the same as the season before.

Pryor threw for 2,094 yards and 18 touchdowns last year and ran for another 779. Jones made 154 tackles in 2009 and was a consensus All American.

On the team side, where the Big Ten announces just the top three vote getters in the media poll, Ohio State led the way followed by Iowa and Wisconsin.

Iowa won the Orange Bowl last year, beating Georgia Tech, 24-14, and returns quarterback Ricky Stanzi and defensive stalwart Adrian Clayborn.

Wisconsin has the best running back in the league, John Clay, who was last year's Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.

Jackson Are you serious? I mean running game alone makes him the best in the big ten. If he doesnt throw a ball all year hes still be better QB than Tate. Tate and denard are just shifty, But Pryor has top end speed and the best stiff arm in college ball today. And thats what i hate about him! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3HGo1SuLQw

pryor - very overrated, very lackluster (lebron) player on a team that has had success. I see him tanking in 2nd or 3rd game, getting replaced and then thinking he should jump to the NFL - NOT!

@sean t.... this isn't a michigan forum. it is the sports section of a ann arbor website. i don't understand why bigten news is no interest to you? they could delete this story though, and add one in about Darryl Stonum and his non-punishment for violating probation...is that more what you're looking for?

Can we stop being so sensitive? its not off topic because its talk of the conference that we're a part of. At the end of the year I'm sure we'll see some Michigan guys on the all big ten team and then we won't think it's off topic.

"The days since Michigans last victory over Ohio State in football is now 2,445." That stat would be relevant if they played eachother everyday or even once a week. I still remember the John Cooper 2-10-1 stat, so these things go in cycles.

Although, I believe these two deserve these titles, posting it on our forum is irritating. ( It should be on the M-live homepage) I think a little more thought in where these artcles should be placed is needed.

Little sensitive today spartyisyourlilsister! Did you know this? The days since Michigans last victory over Ohio State in football is now 2,445. That should be of more concern than the above article. Just my opinion.

Why is this article posted on the U of M page on annarbor.com? There is absolutely nothing related to U of M in this article! Can't the editors delete an entire article for being off topic?
