Reaction to Leaders and Legends, Michigan basketball a surprise in Big Ten and more
About noon on Monday, Twitter and Facebook blew up with reaction to the Big Ten choosing Leaders and Legends as its football division names.
Not much of it was positive.
Later that night, on the popular ESPN show "Pardon the Interruption," co-host Michael Wilbon said: "This is so dumb, it's so pretentious. I'd expect that of the Ivy League. ... I wouldn't expect that of the Big Ten."
Overnight, opinions continued to be published on websites around the country with words like "lame" and "pomposity" sprinkled into the headlines. Here's a roundup of some of the best:

• CBSSports.com: Dungeons, Dragons and Big Ten divisions.

Speaking of U-M basketball and the "Leaders/Legends" reaction, I caught the Wolverine's game last night on the Big 10 Network. The court side announcing team was gushing over the creative brilliance as regards the new logo and divisional names. I couldn't help chuckling. Those two guys obviously want to keep their jobs. Can't really blame them, particularly in this employment market.

I don't think the names are pompous--just lame, useless, nonsensical. I really think less people would have complained with "Bo" and "Woody," and those would do more for being able to tell which teams are in which division. The logo looks childish, kind of in contrast to the feel "leaders" and "legends" present. It really looks like something you could sit with Microsoft Paint and conjure up. The Big Ten wasted some money on that one. I've seen better on blogs. They could have just left the old logo alone and made the 'N' red and shaped like the Nebraska 'N.'

The referance to dull and regular by The1Cool could be a proper referance to the big ten as a whole the only problem I see for this logo is Michigan trying to break away from the 3yards and a cloud of dust mold that the 10 has been in since its conception. If Mich. can find a defense then I would disagree with this logo but I have to agree that at present this logo suits the ten just fine.

The names aren't so bad, but the logo is boring. They're polar opposites. The names are creative and risky while the logo is dull and regular, something you'd expect to see in the '80s.

This is what you get when you hire a company called, "Pentagram." Isn't Pentagram the symbol of the devil? Powder Blue = Tar Heels = Ugly Font = Ugly Layout: on a scale of 0-10: can I use negative numbers? Legacy and Legends: After 5 years we'll all forget about how goofy they sound.
