Realignment update: It's unanimous: Nebraska to the Big Ten

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Nebraska will hold a press conference within the hour to announce it will apply for membership in the Big Ten, according to the Lincoln (Neb.) Journal-Star.

The most interesting part about Nebraska's move is a letter from school president Harvey Perlman, which indicates the Cornhuskers are hopeful of making the switch in time for the 2011 football season.

Here's a link to the full story.

81wolverine your right about the spittoons I always thought the Michigan alumni geeks could use them to spit out their BS especially when it comes to RR and their hatred of him before he even arrived.

Big Ten people, please welcome Cornhusker nation. You got one the strongest brands in college football history.I'm a WVU fan.You should be tickled to death to have them with you.I've said 100 times quit worrying Notre Dame.Go back and look at there history in college football. You may not know it yet,but they are a better brand than Penn State. What has Penn State ever done since they have been with you.Nice place to go camping i guess.Still remember what Bobby Knight said about them.

Yes, Michigan was the champion in 1997. Shameless politicking from Nebraska and ESPN. But it's a good addition to the conference. What's unanimous, though? The Big Ten still has to vote. And the vote doesn't have to be unanimous, though I don't see any of the schools not approving of this one. So, welcome Bugeaters/Huskers. I especially like the potential of a Nebraska/Iowa rivalry.

Guess we'll need to put spitoons in Michigan Stadium now. Ha-ha just kidding. Actually, Nebraska will raise the competition in at least football in the conference. In most other sports, they're not going to be as competitive. I'm personally, past the '97 fiasco now. But, I'd love to get revenge for that disastrous finish in the 2005 Alamo Bowl which we lost to them. That last play is one of the classics in Michigan football history: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLEXBPwF9_g I still don't know how Tyler Ecker managed to get knocked out of bounds - it looked like he should have been able to make it to the end zone.

Sad day for the "Big 10". Probably go the same way as the Big 12! We could have had Boise State!! Love the blue carpet in wacky WAC! Mich was the National Champ in '97.

It's tough to get over '97. Unsportsmanlike comments made by Scott Frost and the timing of Osborn's retirement seemed to me like NU was politicking for their share. We all saw the NU player "kick" the ball in the air vs. Mizzu. But that was then and this is now. Welcome to the Huskers and their incredible fan base!

I can't wait! This is great news for my household as I'm a Michigan alum and the wife is a Nebraska Bugeater! Football Saturdays will be a whole lot more fun. Until the LOML throws me out for taunting her!
