What is missing in this story is that the students are working to change the UM's mascot to the Michigan Opossums. The argument is: the UM FB team plays dead at home and gets killed on the road.

At least that vote was decisive. They only narrowly defeated a resolution, 15-14, to encourage The University of Arizona to fire football coach Mike Stoops.

Hahahahahahaha, Reminds me of the so called student committee at U of Wisconsin who grilled and rejected Bo back in 1967 which Bobby Knight also took to heart when asking Bo for advice about the opening (bb head coach) at the same place a year later. True story and DetNews ran that story a few wks ago. Hail to those 5 brilliant students who shall be under AD Brandon's wing.

Like others have said, this was not about backing the coach. I attended Michigan, and some of you might be surprised by how many students there don't really care about the football program...some of whom think people like us are completely ridiculous (have a friend who was at Michigan with me and is like that...another one who is a huge SEC fan and cares more about them than Michigan, which is so sickening). I bet the majority, if not all, of the students who voted no are those kind of people or are the ones who think you have your priorities out of order if you don't take sports as something you just watch randomly and simply shrug when the team loses. There were so many people in Ann Arbor who had been at the game or watched it on TV after the Appalachian State loss who acted like what just happened wasn't a big deal, and I couldn't believe it. I'm not saying football should be this colossal deal to anybody, but really caring about it doesn't automatically mean your priorities are out of order--you can care a lot about many things. Still, I want RR gone, but I agree, bringing this up as a student resolution...I think there are ways for students who care to be heard, but this is not the best way...though I can't necessarily think of too many more pressing issues the students at the university need to deal with, aside from maybe how much it costs to attend that school and, if they're still trying to find ways to get affirmative action back, maybe that.

This is why we pay an Athletic Director the big bucks. Sorry kiddos, this is not a democracy. Get back to class. p.s. didn't they vote to support marijuana dispensaries on campus as well? Explains alot.

I don't think Dave Brandon can even think about firing RichRod. If Michigan's stellar offense wasn't returning 10 of 11 starters next year, okay, you think about it. But, when he sees that practically the entire offense is returning, Brandon has to think that if he keeps RichRod another year, the offense could be ridiculously good. We all know that the defense needs some serious help, but if RichRod gets fired, it isn't as if suddenly those terrible players will become All-Big Ten under a new coach. Michigan doesn't have defensive depth, and that doesn't change under a new coach. The only thing Michigan can realistically do to the defense is adjust the scheme by abandoning the useless 3-3-5 and going back to a more traditional 4-3 or 3-4...while RichRod likes the 3-3-5, if they tell him to change it or else, I have a feeling that he likes his job more than he likes that particular defensive style. The offense is simply in too good of a position for next year to let RichRod go. Don't get me wrong...I would much rather have gotten Les Miles or Jim Harbaugh three years ago. RichRod wouldn't even have been in my top 20 list of prospective coaches. But, the offense is spectacular, and I am worried that by replacing him as long as we have the offense we do, that we would be throwing the baby out with the bath water.

He'll probably get his fourth year to beat somebody and then if he doesn't he'll be gone. I like to have the students input on who the coach should be for their program, whether their right or wrong it's their team.

Forever....24 students voted no on something they felt shouldn't ahve even been brought up before that body....that is not a case of "the students" backing the coach. Wow!!

Good for the students. I'm so sick of this incessant "fire the coach" talk. The guy comes in, improves the record each year, and gets to a respectable bowl game. This is reason to be fired?

sounds like their reasoning isn't so much that they support RR, but rather they didn't think it was an appropriate topic for their time/agendas---kind of like AA council opposing Arizona's immigration laws, etc...

Good for them. Now maybe RR can relax and concentrate on the upcoming bowl game. GO BLUE.
