Video tribute to former Michigan football player Vada Murray

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Former Michigan defensive back Vada Murray first caught the attention of coaches from the way he battled his opponents. Years later, the football player-turned-Ann Arbor police officer caught it for the way he battled cancer.

For those too young to remember the playing days of Murray, who died Wednesday, here's a video tribute that has been posted on YouTube.com:

Thanks for this. Defensive backs making plays, what's that about? Fumble recoveries, interceptions, tackles, BLOCKED KICKS WHAT UP? White neck braces, Bo on the sidelines, defense, winning. Thanks Vada, another in a long line of Michigan heroes. Thank you and all the best to your family.

Everyone should thank a youtube user named WolverineHistorian for the tribute video. He has put together many amazing video compilations for Michigan football and basketball. You can see this video on his youtube page. RIP Vada.

Anyone who has lost a friend or family member before their time knows how keenly this kind of loss hurts. My sincere condolences to Vada Murray's family. Thank you, Vada Murray for contributing so much to the University of Michigan and the Ann Arbor Community.

annarbor.com staff. Thank you so much for the video, and yes I remember him well. He was not only a great player but a very respectable gentleman, for me most notably autograph/meet the players day. Met him many times at the bank and when he was a officer - always so friendly, so polite. It is just not right, that this could happen to a person who never smoked and ALWAYS took so good care of himself. Best wishes to his wife and children. I know Vada will have the best seat in the house for our season opener September 3 - MgoBlue for Vada !
