Watch Minnesota football players celebrate victory and return of Jerry Kill

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The Minnesota football team celebrated in the locker room Saturday for two reasons. One, the Golden Gophers beat Miami (Ohio), 29-23, for their first victory under coach Jerry Kill.

Two, Kill was back on the sidelines one week after suffering a seizure on the sidelines. Kill jogged onto the field at the start of the game after spending five days in the hospital as doctors adjusted his medication. Kill has suffered seizures for years.

Minnesota is 1-2 and plays at Michigan on Oct. 1 (Noon, BTN).

The Gophers' post-game celebration was captured on video by the Minnesota's Gopher Sports:

From The Associated Press:

Kill had never missed a game because of a seizure before, and he wasn't about to let that happen this time with his team struggling at 0-2.

"I've said all along, I'm a small-town guy that's been given a great life and I'm going to live it to its fullest," said Kill, who beat kidney cancer earlier in his coaching career. "I've been given a second chance and I'm not taking any shortcuts. I'm not going to have somebody tell me I can't do something."

The players love Coach Kill. I love the story about the tee-shirt a player wears when he makes a mistake...these guys need this type of coach. Good for them as long as they loose to us.

I wish Mr. Kill all the best. I hope he has many more wins, with the exception of when he plays Michigan. Mr.Kill is a Kansas man and got one of his first coaching jobs at my alma mater, so obviously I want him to succeed, just not against Michigan.

That's good for Minnesota, no team should be without some wins and some inspirational come backs. As I see it, the Big Ten schools should all be top performers: if nothing else, it would mean the Big Ten was the best conference in the country.
