tater...As much as you complain with and I agree with "down in front" being those against this game it hit the nail RIGHT on the head. However, the "down in fronters" are what make Michigan such a great University. We have alumni all across the country that travel to A2 every Saturday home game. You don't see that many other places. And for that you must be proud. One day you will be one of them. One day. Until then, keep fightin the good fight. UofM 2010 9-4 Winner of Champs Sports Bowl vs Clemson

MjC- is roughly 40k a year not getting paid enough? a lot of these football players otherwise would not be admitted into this college if anything THAT is something you should complain about, the acceptance of athletes sub-par credentials. free education from the University of Michigan is a pretty BIG payment if you ask me. if they choose to not make the most of it that is their problem. but to say they aren't getting paid is a joke. they have 0 expenses once they step on campus other than off campus stuff like food(meal plans are covered on campus)/clothing/alcohol/entertainment. also. did you play high school football MjC? one of the BIG highlights of high school football is playing under the lights. you cant replace it. wheter it be football, soccer, baseball. the memory created for this (for the players) will be something they walk away with and hold onto for the rest of thier lives. playing under the lights at the big house. plus the atmosphere of the game will be insane. sure it might buck the tradition of playing strictly day games at the big house but to say its bad for the scoool/program is laughable. it is good for the players, the fans, the school, and the entire big ten. sure finances will benefit but so will the overall experience/atmosphere that tends to be very dull for 110,000 plus people. I myself am very excited for it and WILL be present.

"How 'bout Belotti in a night game?" If he was the Oregon AD, last year's "Civil War" With Oregon & Oregon State was a night game and that game was amazing.

Speaking of tradition.... Did anyone just see the news? Belotti resigned from Oregon as AD after 1 year. Hmmmm. I thought they should have gone after him when LC announced his retirement, but Belotti was tied to OU. Now, that he's not, I would hope that Michigan would entertain him if "the King" does not work out. I think Belotti has a track record at a big school and of winning. I don't know a whole lot more than that--does he have a clean record? How 'bout Belotti in a night game? He has already shown that he can win in Michigan stadium--that whuppin' was among the 3 worst games I can remember seeing. (along with SU 1998 and OSU in RR's first year)

"let's at least provide our players full tuition, free room and board, free long-term health care benefits, free injury & life insurance, maybe a dozen free game tickets, and a few free travel vouchers for close family members. And all the support they need to leave the UM with a college degree." These kids get many of those things (mentioned above) already, in addition to the once-in-a-lifetime experience of playing before 110,000 cheering fans. Who is exploited more, a kid who has to work two(or more) jobs to cover his/her ever increasing tuition or the kid who gets the privilege to participate in Division 1 athletics and have their hand held all the way to a degree from a premier university?

Wersch213 - You kicked a field goal! I'll stay home and give up my seats to the next generation. I'll hide under the blankets (maybe watch Wheel of Fortune). Unfortunately, you probably can't afford season tickets, not with the license fees. And it's not just the night lights you'll be sitting under, but also under the shadow of the rich fans in the new suites. Look, these night games are all about money. So, ok, let's at least provide our players full tuition, free room and board, free long-term health care benefits, free injury & life insurance, maybe a dozen free game tickets, and a few free travel vouchers for close family members. And all the support they need to leave the UM with a college degree. Then maybe the exploitation I think is going on under the disguise of a prime time evening game will be acknowledged.

how about a simple choice of "I like it once in a while".Astep in the right direction sounds like we would want every game at night and the biggest party ever sounds like what it is.I am not gonna get drunk and party but watching 1 or 2 games a year at night would be fun.Thats why I chose "other"

Ok, let's compensate these kids monetarily. Then can we have their scholarships back and give them to someone that may actually use it to create an external benefit for society?

Full support over here. Anyone who doesn't like this is more than welcome to stay home and give up their seats to the new generation of Michigan fans. Stay at home under your blankets. I'll be with 112,000 strong having a fabulous time.

I have been hoping for this for a long time. I'm sure all the players and coaches will be excited. Those players who want to study will find time; those fans who wish to have a good time will do so. Gee, our new AD, a former player, thinks it is a good idea, what about that? He also didn't go pro but got a great education, played ball, and went on to have a great job! If we want to return to the top, we are not going to do it by sticking to the same old tradition; some might say that is how we got into this mess. By not playing in primetime, by the big 10 having no championship game, our teams lose a lot of exposure, and the recruits see that. All you naysayers can have your way, but then i suggest you pick an SEC or Big12 team to cheer for if you want a national championship. Either you adapt to the times or fall behind....which is what we have done in the past! Night games might help liven up the quietest stadium in the country...." Down up front!"

Weird. Not right. Different. But let's try it on for size....It should be interesting. I remember that M-OSU game in the 1980s that went late, when Kolesar caught that big pass. Being in the stadium that late had an almost surreal quality, but neat...Heck, maybe it will be fun....but weird, different...

I think this is a great day for Michigan football! Night games are exciting to watch and the atmosphere is so intense. In regards to paying the players-they already are. I had to pay for my tuition, books, etc... Most of these players don't. The university pays for their education. I would think players would want to showcase their talents in front of a bigger audience as well. Go Blue!

Prime time means more viewers. More folks are going to get to see this team. Seems it would have made more sense to do this when we were competitive. Same comment to ND. Why do these AD's want to go public with this show??

well they have a mammoth of a stadium, so having special events there makes sense like this game and the outdoor hockey game. Now if only they would consider hosting other stuff there as well, like other sporting events or concerts? gotta pay the bills

Well, I suppose if you have no chance to win the game it's best to focus on something like the time of day it's played.

I agree with you guys to an extent. Paying the players strait up cash would be nice, and I would love it, but it is just not feasable...They need to be compensated in some other way because then they just become semi-pro athletes and the system will deteriorate. Also, the money made does not go to waste. It funds many other athletic programs and scholarships. Maybe they could set up accounts for each player that will build up based on academic performance and whether they stay and graduate.

mjc- i said i might even agree with you on that point! my point is, why bring that up on a discussion about the night game? like the night game makes any difference... you shouldn't be boycotting this game because of what you think about players being paid or not paid. you should boycott every game then.. it makes no difference that michigan is now gonna do what every other damn school does.

Hail - I actually do support college football players getting paid. I think they're exploited in these days and times. Why shouldn't they get paid for all the money they bring to the colleges and towns where they play. I've got no problem with pay for play!

Thu, Mar 18, 2010 : 5:22 p.m.
MjC, What difference does it make when they play the game? With the game played at night, the guys can study all day, until like 2 PM...Also, the athletes are already exploited, so there's no change there either! Why not just tell the truth and tell us that you're angry at the system and tired of the exploitation. I don't like it either, but paying student athletes is not the answer. Thier payment is a free ride to one of the most prestigious Universities on Earth! Whether they choose to take advantage of it is up to them.

MJC, i suggest you go watch the Brandon/Rodriguez video in the other link. the players are ECSTATIC to play in that type of atmosphere. You don't give a **** about the players, you just don't want your precious tradition to be touched. They aren't getting paid whether its day or night, so get over it. If you think college players should be payed, I might listen to you and possibly agree on that- but you're using it to support your own agenda on this one. Every other school plays night games at home and they're amazing. This university is catching up with the times one day at a time, I love it.

I love this idea! What a freakin' blast! I live in Columbus and when they have a Texas or USC come to town, it's always at night and it always rocks! PSU does it, Iowa does it too! The fact that 30% are calling it another sad break in tradition is a flat out joke! Get with the program people, the world is passing you by!

These are college kids, people. Not NFL professional football players. These kids are not getting paid, nor are they getting lucrative endorsements. Many will leave injured without any prospect of playing professionally. Only a few will make it to the big leagues. And all of them are here at the University of Michigan not just to play football but to earn a college degree (imagine that!). These kids have classes and course work assignments. We have no right to treat our college students as if they belong to Monday Night Football. You want to watch college students play at night? Then pay them and don't exploit their talent. This is all about money - if this how we're supposed to "get with the times" then the money made through night time games should be paid to the players for working overtime. College football was meant to be played on Saturday afternoons.

another sad break from tradition? wow, now you complain about playing football under the lights... you guys gotta get with the times. or stand around *****ing about it cause this sort of stuff is gonna keep happening. go bandwagon some other team please- this is the new direction get used to it. us real fans would rather you go join the spartans "yeah we win 6-8 games and consider it a success!!!" fan base. we don't need your kind.
