What do you think of 3 players leaving the Michigan football program this week?
By AnnArbor.com Staff
News came Monday that freshman offensive lineman Tony Posada was gone from the Michigan football program.
Tuesday, junior wide receiver Je'Ron Stokes was out. Today, word came that freshman tight end Chris Barnett was headed elsewhere.
Nine days before Michigan opens the season at home against Western Michigan (3:30 p.m., ABC), what do you think of the departures? Take our poll:

It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Are these kids too soft at heart? Do they seek instant fame and success without hard work? Only they and the Hoke coaching staff really knows the answers. No need to slam Coach Carr on the Mallet deal, sounds like some issues will never die with some Michigan football fans. That too leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I wish Coach Hoke the best in recruiting efforts and enjoy the ride.

Ryan Mallet left because Lyodd Carr told him so. I think coach Brady Hoke has a better approach, happy to see that. Theese players must have felt like they were not going get any play time. But I'd like Je'Ron Stokes, he was a good player. I hope we are not going to run out of wide receivers. Best is yet to come. GO BLUE!!!!

@redceder1...I gotta believe the censors are friends of yours. At some point the light will go on and you will realize this is not the site for you. But, then again, you do bring some humor to the table and I for one certainly love to laugh at your comments. ps: censors am I being nice enough?????

Best of luck to them, but they are no longer Michigan Men so who cares. When Brady Hoists the Big Ten Championship trophy in December, that will cut down on defections. Hard work has it's rewards. And indeed, "THOSE WHO STAY WILL BE CHAMPIONS"

Those who stay will be champions. Didn't someone tell us that?

I'm having a hard time being optimistic about any of this. I slammed RichRod because of his faux class last year, one that steadily fell apart. I know Hoke didn't have much time to put this class together, but it was mediocre at best and is getting worse by the moment. We can say all we want about how these kids were no good or wouldn't contribute, but frankly, we don't know that. All we know is they have decided to leave Michigan. I'm really worried about depth going forward. So far, we've lost a LB, T, and TE out of this class and as I said it wasn't loaded to begin with. Let's hope the rumors about the shakiness of the 2012 class is just that, rumors. Frankly, I'm now just waiting for the season to get started so we can (hopefully) get past this crap.

More scholarships for more quitters next year. This class was big because of last years quitters. Who needs scholarship players? It's walk-ons that start at um anyway. Always a young team in aa.

1) Posada would have been red-shirted and probably not much of a contributor in 2012 2) Stokes was 7th or 8th on the depth chart. Just means 2 WR will be brought in with the 2012 class 3) Barnett is injured. May have been red-shirted, may have seen some action mid-way through the season. Hurts depth a bit for next year, but you have to wonder where this kids head is? He committed to Arkansas, de-committed, the committed to us on signing day. All in all I think we will be fine. This now opens up the possibility for Michigan to get 1 or 2 quality WR's for the 2012 class and perhaps 1 Tight End (Ron Thompson?).

i think most of these kids come in and think high school. they were big in high school now it is time to get into real life. just like once you leave college and get a job. start paying back student loans etc. i think they just could not wait to be good. if you are 4th string at the u and star in high school bid dif. just also remember these kids are 18-19 years old. what ever will happen it will happen. always happens some come and some leave. it is expected.

Posada, soft 3 star kid who was a legacy recruit from RR...no big loss. Stokes, RR recruit who never saw the field under RR and wont under Hoke...no big loss. Barnett, last minute addition, switched schools prior to this, shaky past, knee operation...no big loss. just calling it like it is.

Everyone was jacked when Chris Barnett climbed aboard late in the recruiting season, so it's a little 2-faced to now say "no big deal". But it's best for everyone that it happened now if it was going to. Chris can get with someone else and Brady gets another scholie slot.

I think before we can honestly answer the poll question we need to know why the players left. If these guys are quitters, and are leaving just because they can't hack it, are mad about their position on the depth chart, or something like that, the general sentiment would probably be "good riddance, didn't need you anyway", but if they are leaving because of some reason other than that, I might be concerned.

I was thinking along the lines of Mike Leach locking players in supply closets or other actual abuses of the coaching staff. Something other than the standard disciplinary stuff, something that went above and beyond normal coaching/yelling/screaming at player that would potentially cross the line into verbal/physical abuse. If I saw something like that going on, I might say "screw you, I'm outta here" too. Obviously, I haven't heard anything remotely close to anything like that either, which makes it a very unlikely scenario, but stranger things have happened. Had to leave open the possibility, that's all. Personally, I suspect its the "can't hack it" variety of quitting the team too. But, I can't state that definitely because we simply don't have that info.

Yeah ... I agree ... though I doubt we'll really find out. There is nothing ... NOTHING ... that suggests anything other than an above-board and very intense coaching process here. My sense is it's either (a) can't cut it, or (b) I'm not going to play here. Just curious -- what "reason other than that" would have you concerned? I'm serious ... I can't think of a hypothetical that's plausible given what we seem to know about Hoke, Borges, Mattison et al.
