Why did Ohio State coach Jim Tressel decide to resign on Memorial Day?
Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel resigned Monday after months of scrutiny brought on by reported NCAA violations. Sources told the Columbus Dispatch that Tressel was “encouraged to resign,” though university officials would not confirm that statement.
Pulitzer Prize winning journalist George Dorhmann -- who has been know to have been working on a story about the program for weeks -- tweeted on Monday “I'm told it is likely my SI mag story will be posted at SI.com later today/tonight. Timing of Tress dec. will make sense after you read it”.

Now we can all go to the cemetery and view Ohio State Football's grave. It will be years before they can resurrect that tainted program from the dead. I refuse to salute Tressel, his past sins make him far worse than Woody Hayes or Bobby Knight. JT does not belong in the legends class with Hayes and Knight. He's a proven loser.

This man is a coward and by his actions of resigning on Memorial Day shows that his middle America sensibilities are rooted in sand. He made the day of memory to those who died to keep us free and perserve our national values all about him and his lying and cheating behavior. osu made it worse by announcing his "resignation" early in the day so it appears they are beating SI to the draw and that it will help them when the NCAA lowers the boom. The level of disrespect toward the fallen by the people in tsio is truly a sign of how far removed Buckeyes are from reality. Shame on you.

The man is a hypocrite. All those inspirational books he wrote, his bible readings, under it all he was a cheat and a liar. But he's not the only one, Rich Rod was of the same ilk, and there have been many before him. At least (as far as we know) Tressel, as he resigned, will be leaving without any compensation. Unlike the wisdom (???) of the U of M that let Rich Rod walk away from his devastation with a big pot of money. And while we're at it - the NCCPA should speed up any investigations of wrong doing. Their protracted time period of getting to the bottom of everything only encourages devious shenanigans, as people think that by the time anything is revealed everything will be forgotten, forgiven or foreclosed.

Richard Nixon resigned his presidency because he faced 100% certain impeachment and possible criminal prosecution. We gotta try to get into the other guy's head and this time doing so with Tressel's head tells us he also resigned to avoid certain consequences. This way, he avoids the embarrassment he saw Rich Rodriguez go through for much less serious charges when RR went before the NCAA investigators. Announcing on the Memorial Day weekend was obviously just part of damage control / mitigation. Lets remember too that these investigations go on "forever" and they often reveal deeper and deeper problems along the way. Tressel may already know what those problems are - or, he may just want to avoid that possibility coming to pass while he's still head coach. Isn't it odd: all these frauds over the years go through these grueling processes of "discovery" - but the next gen of frauds always seems to believe they'll be smarter and get away with their own misdeeds. I guess to be more convincing, future investigators will have to act as soon as they discover evidence: go to the offender's house, drag them onto the front lawn and shoot them in the back of the head while news cameras roll.

"Why did Ohio State coach Jim Tressel decide to resign on Memorial Day?" Because; although appearing to be a great person and coach - he was a coward ! Why else when so many of our serviceman - our friends, our relatives gave up their tomorrows so we could have ours. He resigned to avoid publicity - not even thinking about America's heritage.

Because he is a classless individual working for a morally bankrupt organization that has lost all sense of honor and respect toward the people who really gave it their all, when it counted the most. The NCAA should add a year of penalties just for tsio's lack of common sense and level of disrespect.

I prefer this take from a pal on a sports forum who goes by the name "Go Blue"...... "Figures. The arrogance of Tressel to resign on a holiday that we as Americans set aside to honor and remember our fallen heroes.
