The story details the Hatch’s history as a family that would fly anywhere and held by the motto that “Life is to be lived.”

The plane crash occurred less than two weeks after Hatch committed to play basketball at the Michigan. Hatch had just completed his sophomore year at Canterbury High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. His father, Dr. Stephen Hatch, and step-mother, Kim Hatch, both died in the crash.
