Walk-on FB Joe Kerridge thinks he can make an impact for Michigan football team; QB Tate Forcier visiting other schools today and more
A leg injury may have sidelined Joe Kerridge for his senior season at Traverse City St. Francis, but the fullback is optimistic he could make an impact as a walk-on for the Michigan football team, writes Mark Synder of the Detroit Free Press.
Snyder writes, "But how much impact can a non-recruited player have? More than you'd think, considering he was talking to Division 1 teams about a scholarship last year after rushing for 1,200 yards and 22 TDs as a junior."

@Dusty, I'm just of the opinion that teams who can run the ball, control the clock, keep their D off the field and wear down the opponent in general. As far as us running the ball well last year, I don't know man, yes DR had nice stats, but you need the RB's to get the brunt of the yards, not the QB. I know we had a nice per carry avg, but obviously it didn't pay off in terms of being a double digit winner.

As a born and breed Michigan fan and an alum of Montana, I would love to see Tate in Missoula. We could use him after not making the playoffs last season. Go Blue & Go Griz!

I like this young man, I like good students with a strong work ethic. It will indeed serve him and the U-M very well. I have a feeling this guy is going to succeed. With our move back to the Pro Set, being able to run the football opens up so many possibilities. Although I'd like to see a lot of the offense we saw in our last Bowl win over Fla., that was fun to watch and very successful. A few more thoughts: That was quite a heated and popular comment thread on the treatment of "whatshisname" to past players, getting close to 150 comments as of this morning (pacific time anyways). My take, mostly a non story really, but still somewhat indicative of his dismissiveness towards our traditions, so what else is new and again, good riddance. As far as some people on here hoping "whatshisname" going to another school and getting said "Crystal Ball". Why? Are you really a U-M fan to want that? Like Murrow's Ghost stated, this doesn't make you a fan of the U-M, but a fan of "whatshisname". Finally, in that "Cowboys & Aliens" movie, I wondered to myself if Indians were going to feel left out and which side might they take in the battles. I'm thinking probably ours, because it's earth and all. So Go Earth & Go Blue!!!!

Dusty, effectively means we scored consistently vs good team/defenses. Then why did we lose EVERY game vs good teams/defenses? I think we can have it ALL. Running, passing, defense, kicking game and COACHING. All in the same year. Wouldn't that make you happy? Please say YES!

And what do you mean "being able to run the football opens up so many possiblities."? We ran the ball very well this season, thank you very much. We actually had a more effective running game than we had in any of the 4 seasons Mike Hart was here. Even against the top defenses in the Big Ten, we ran effectively and consistently.

The pro set is a formation, not an offense. We aren't "moving bakc to the Pro Set."

Lake Aren't you the one who's always pointing out the the record got better every year? When TF was the starting QB they won 5 games. When DRob was the starter this year they won 7 games. 7 > 5 ( > is greater sign). DRob is the more successful QB. So do you like this FB from TC or are you going to start your own thread? Would you rather have a player who wants to be at Michigan so bad he will pay is own way for the chance to compete or some guy who follows his buddy to the Magic Kingdom at UCF under a guy who forged his resume? Take your time. I'll be around, hopefully. TiM Go Blue!

I always felt our chances were better for a win when Tate was QB.

Oops! Meant he would not take the open 10 yards when it was there.

Tate would not make the right throws in the scheme, he was always looking for the big play instead of hitting the 10 pass to an open he was a sack and turnover machine in my mind. I always wonder when he was in the game. It was boom or bust with him.

Good looking football player, and that's what he is, a football player. Not overly fast but really good field awareness running the ball and brings the wood on his hits. His bad luck can turn out to be our good fortune, his and Michigan's. Great student with great schools after him following his injury. (Stanford and NW) And, he's gratis, and that will make him motivated vs those getting the "free ride". Wouldn't want to get his way in practice if you have a scholarship, he might just try to take it away. This is the difference between the kid who went to USF and Coach Holtz, (the 4 star linebacker), and a kid who WANTS to play football at MICHIGAN. I'll take the Joe Kerridges over that "follower" all day long. TiM Go Blue!

A few points: 1. Mark who writes in the Detroit what? All the fluff in the world won't compensate for his past transgressions. 2. I hope Forcier goes to Montana. He is a little small for the BCS, but would be huge in Montana. 3. @Phil Simms: be careful what you ask for. 4. How can the poster child of oversigning be taken seriously as a defender of grayshirting? 5. I love dogs too, but burying one at Sanford Stadium seems juuuust a little bit creepy to me. 6. From this point hereafter, every MSU loss will cost Tom Izzo $500,000 on his NBA contract this summer.
