Huron girls basketball claim championship at Livonia Ladywood Tournament; Saline wrestling takes 6th at EMU Varsity Tournament
LIVONIA -- When Charlise Slater drained a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the third quarter, it gave the Huron High School girls basketball team a 2-point lead and -- more importantly -- the momentum.
In fact, the River Rats' Devonyea Johnson opened the fourth quarter with 5 unanswered points, helping Huron pull away for a 46-39 victory over Livonia Ladywood in the championship game of the inaugural Livonia Ladywood Christmas Tournament on Wednesday.
"At that point," said Huron coach Steve Vinson, referring to the momentum-swing, "we were able to get in a comfort zone. That felt good."
Despite being deadlocked with Ladywood, 19-19, at halftime, Vinson was confident his River Rats would shake off their slow start. (Story | Boxscore)
