Weekend tournament features free tennis clinic and healthy lifestyle workshop
Did you indulge over Memorial Day weekend?
How about a little tennis tournament action, a healthy lifestyle workshop and some fund raising for the Ozone House this weekend to even things out?
The 13th annual Visionary Tennis Association Tennis Classic, played Thursday through Sunday at the University of Michigan’s Varsity Tennis Center, offers those opportunities.
A full field of more than 130 players from around southeastern Michigan will compete in singles and doubles play. Matches are scheduled for 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
There will be a free, open-to-the-public tennis clinic and healthy lifestyle workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Visionary Tennis Association was founded by local health advocate Greg Lambert and operates under the umbrella of The Professional Educators Group, Inc. Its annual tournament serves as a fundraiser and awareness builder for healthy living.
Lambert is a wellness coordinator at the University of Michigan and a tennis instructor at Chippewa Racquet Club and Pittsfield Township Parks & Recreation Department.
Proceeds from corporate sponsorships and registration fees benefit a different charity each year. This year’s beneficiary is the Ozone House, which offers shelter and support to runaway, homeless and high-risk youth.
