Where to go and what to do if you're going to the Old Spice Classic

So you're heading to Orlando this week for Thanksgiving or the Old Spice Classic. You've never been and don't know where to go? You've been there and looking for some other places?

AnnArbor.com is here to help. After speaking with some locals and gauging their favorites as well as digging on some Web sites, here's a quick primer on what to do and where to go when you're in the middle of Florida. And if you have other recommendations or suggestions, drop them in the comments below. See ya in Orlando.

Restaurants:

  • Taverna Opa: Greek food moderately priced. Plus, as one local tells it, at dinner “you can dance on the tables.” It is located at 9101 International Drive, phone number (407) 351-8660. Prices are moderate, from $15-$25 a plate.

  • Timpano Chop House: Somewhat expensive, but good steaks. Steakhouse and Martini Bar. 7488 West Sand Lake Road. (407) 248-0429.

  • Le Coq Au Vin: Seafood, steak, poultry and veal, considered a French restaurant. Recommended by 10Best.com. 4800 S. Orange Ave. (407) 851-6980.

  • Yellow Dog Eats: Moderately priced American food recommended by 10best.com. 1236 Hempel Ave. Windermere, FL (407) 296-0609

  • Kres Chop House: Rated No. 1 by Yelp, the steakhouse is expensive but takes reservations. 17 W. Church Street. (407) 447-7950.
  • Nightlife:

  • Downtown Disney

  • Universal City Walk

  • Casey’s On Central: 50 E Central Blvd. (407) 648-4218. This bar, according to an AnnArbor.com friend living in Orlando, is a Michigan hangout.

  • Pat O’Brien’s: Been to the original on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. This one, on the Universal Citywalk, is said to be similar. 6000 Universal Studios Plaza, Universal Studios Citywalk.

  • SKY60: Rated third among bars by 10Best.com, it is a rooftop bar where you can dance. 64 N. Orange Ave. (407) 246-1599

  • Orlando Brewing: Hidden in the Warehouse District of Orlando, this place is out of the way but well-recommended by Yelp. Also, it is a certified organic brewery. 1301 Atlanta Ave. (407) 872-1117

    -Cirque de Soleil: La Nouba. In Downtown Disney it is expensive ($72-125 for adults). But, it’s a Cirque de Soleil show.
    -Orlando Museum of Art: 2416 N. Mills Ave. (407) 896-4231. Located by the Orlando Science Center. Why not learn something along with your basketball.
