Ann Arbor's new Design Review Board offers its first critique on 13-story student high-rise

A 13-story student high-rise known as The Varsity officially became the first downtown development to face the scrutiny of Ann Arbor's new design review process today. "I think today is sort of a historic day," said Tamara Burns, a local architect and chairwoman of the city's seven-member Design Review Board.

Do-it-yourself Christmas tree disposal going smoothly so far

Because Ann Arbor canceled its curbside collection of Christmas trees this year, residents must dispose of trees on their own. And so far, it's going smoothly, said Tom McMurtrie, solid waste coordinator for the city. "Haven't heard that anyone is putting them out to the curb," he said.
