Drivers in Northfield Township will encounter lane closures and detours on US-23 and Eight Mile Road starting on Monday for repair work on the Eight Mile Road bridge. Work on the bridge is expected to wrap up by the end of January, but weather could delay completion until mid-February.

A road rage incident escalated into a head-butting at the Shell station in Northfield Township Saturday, the township police department said today. The victim told police the traffic altercation occurred as he and another man were pulling their vehicles into the gas station on North Territorial Road.

A driver who struck and killed a bicyclist with his car last June in Northfield Township was sentenced today to two years of probation. Joshua Hidey, 23, of Whitmore Lake, who pleaded no contest to negligent homicide, was sentenced by Washtenaw County Circuit Judge David Swartz.
