U-M law clinic sues when Detroit Police Department can't afford to access old reports

Records of murders and other crimes that took place in Detroit before 2004 were lost in the vaults due to non-payment, according to a recent lawsuit. The Michigan Innocence Clinic, a center within U-M Law School that investigates cases that may have resulted in a wrongful conviction, is in the process of settling a suit that alleges the Detroit Police Department violated the Freedom of Information Act nine times in the past year.

University of Michigan Law School professor to take on ethics role for President Barack Obama

The University of Michigan Law School will have another friend in the White House. Steven Croley, who specializes in administrative law, civil procedure and regulation, will take a break from teaching duties to work for President Barack Obama's Domestic Policy Council in an ethics and regulatory role, U-M announced today.

A University of Michigan Law School student reported missing last month hanged himself, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said. The body of 35-year-old Casey Neil McGinnis was found Wednesday afternoon in a wooded area behind the Washtenaw County Recreation Center on Washtenaw Avenue, deputies said.

Ann Arbor police are looking for a University of Michigan Law School student who was reported missing Nov. 12. Casey Neil McGinnis, 35, of Prospect Street, hasn't contacted family members since Nov. 11. They're concerned for his well-being, police said.
