David Rutledge introducing bill to help struggling homeowners avoid property tax foreclosure

State Rep. David Rutledge, D-Superior Township, announced today a proposal aimed at helping struggling homeowners avoid property tax foreclosure. The Homeowner Protection Plan would create new tools to help local governments protect homeowners, especially seniors and working families, Rutledge said in a statement.

Residential foreclosures peaked locally in 2008, yet the wave of property owners who gave up their homes to lenders continues to be felt in Washtenaw County’s housing market. Numbers of foreclosures remain at high levels - about five times the “normal” rate recorded as sheriff’s sales early this decade.
