People don't have a right to have contraception covered by health insurance

The recent ruckus over mandating coverage for contraception in private health insurance plans contrasts two worldviews, only one of which -- the Republicans' -- accords with bedrock tenets of American political philosophy. As loony as contra-contraception may be, the defense of people's freedom to be loony is as American as it gets.

We should ask Congress to reject any legislation that would empower employers to deny insurance coverage for birth control. In the case of the Catholic church using the issue to sound like a victim of religious persecution, let us remember that it has freely chosen to operate colleges, hospitals, etc. ...

Ypsilanti Township is projecting it will save $600,000 on health care next year with a new way of providing insurance for its employees. The township Board of Trustees and union heads worked together to help find the savings, which will go into effect in 2012.
