Derecho links: storms with straight line winds

By Edward Vielmetti

A derecho is a windstorm. Tornadoes have their destructive force from spinning winds, but a derecho's winds go in a straight line that can travel for hundreds of miles.

Here's the storm on its way, with damage reports as I can collect them as it heads towards Ann Arbor. The loop below is from the Grand Rapids radar.

For current weather information see the Ann Arbor weather link at the top of the page; click the temperature to see a map.

The DTE power outage map page on Arborwiki has a direct link to the DTE map plus notes on each previous storm.

I'm still online for a bit thanks to my UPS, but we'll see how long that lasts. Winds are fierce.
