"Profile watcher" Facebook scam alert

By Edward Vielmetti

A Facebook group which promises a free tool to let you see everyone who is looking at your profile is really a scam.

The first set of people who joined the group, called Know Who is Viewing Your Profile 24/7, now find themselves a member of an Iron Maiden fan club. Several other groups have started with the same original name.

Iron Maiden is a British new wave heavy metal band which formed in 1975. Their Michigan appearance included shows in March 1987, where they played three concert dates in Battle Creek, Saginaw, and Detroit, and an October 2006 show at the Palace in Auburn Hills. It is not known whether this group was created with their approval.

The Facebook Insider weblog warns not to trust Facebook groups or applications that ask you to invite all of your friends. Their Scam alert: Profile Watcher story also notes that this application, if it would have worked, would be against Facebook's terms of service.

Edward Vielmetti listens to heavy metal head-banging music for AnnArbor.com.

Just wanted to make a correction - Iron Maiden's last stop in Michigan was Oct. 17, 2006 at the Palace in Auburn Hills, MI :)
