John Heuser | The Ann Arbor News Wednesday December 31, 2008, 5:40 PM
The University of Michigan defensive coordinator position remains open two weeks after Scott Shafer's resignation, and it appears that football coach Rich Rodriguez isn't close making a hire.
"I've just started the preliminary stuff," Rodriguez said Wednesday at the Michigan-Wisconsin men's basketball game at Crisler Arena. "I haven't brought anybody in for any interviews or anything like that. I don't know if I will in the next week. After the bowl games are over I'll get more into that."

A dual-threat quarterback from Texas, Shavodrick Beaver was expected to help steady the University of Michigan's offense in the coming years. Now it appears that Beaver will play his college football elsewhere.

by David Mayo | The Grand Rapids Press Wednesday December 17, 2008, 6:45 AM
Scott Shafer officially became the scapegoat of the University of Michigan football collapse Wednesday, which was as predictable as the program's eventual rise from the deep gray ashes. by John Heuser | The Ann Arbor News Tuesday December 16, 2008, 7:00 PM
Following a season in which the University of Michigan football team allowed the most points in school history, defensive coordinator Scott Shafer has resigned.
The university announced the resignation in a news release Tuesday afternoon.
"Scott and I agreed that moving in a different direction was in the best interest of the program," Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said in a written statement. "I appreciate Scott's hard work on behalf of Michigan football the past year. He is a good football coach, a good person and a true professional. We wish him well in the future."

Former University of Michigan defensive end Rondell Biggs was acquitted Monday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of steroids.
A Washtenaw County Circuit Court jury deliberated about 15 minutes before finding Biggs not guilty, defense attorney Marc Lakin said.
"It's good that he cleared his name," Lakin said. "He's always been a clean athlete, and he didn't want his reputation tarnished."
