Pot & Box owner Lisa Waud, pictured in 2010, is expanding her flower and garden shop to Detroit.

An Ann Arbor flower and garden shop plans to bring some greenery to Detroit when it opens a store in Corktown this year, Curbed Detroit reports.

Lisa Waud of Pot & Box, located at 220 Felch St., is opening a flower shop in a long-vacant gas station on the corner of Michigan and 17th streets in Detroit. The expansion comes three years after Waud moved into the 900-square-foot space on Felch Street.

Waud and building landlord Andy Didorosi are planning a major renovation for the Detroit property, which will result in a flower shop with outdoor green space and a parking lot for events. First on the agenda: a Valentines Day market event with vendors from across Detroit.

Waud is hoping to officially open the flower shop near the end of the year, the report says.

I was not aware of Pot and Box. What exactly type of store is it? Is it a florist? A nursery? Does it sell pots? Etc. This would have been helpful for readers who don't know and also helpful for Ms. Waud's business.

Lisa Waud has done wonders with her space in Ann Arbor. She is the epitome of the entrepreneurial energy Ann Arbor and now Detroit needs. I wish her all the best in her expansion!

Pot and Box is a wonderful business. I had a relative who became very sick very quickly, and hospice was involved, and Lisa gathered together the most wonderful, unique arrangement and hand-delivered it on a weekend so she could enjoy it for her last days. Lisa is creative and responsive, and I'd recommend this business to anyone. Congratulations on the expansion!

Just a quick state history lesson on the Felch name: Alpheus Felch was the fifth Governor of Michigan. It was during his (abbreviated) term that the State Capitol was moved from Detroit to Lansing. He is buried here in Ann Arbor.

Here is a quote from Waud from another story we wrote: "I just love old, rusty stuff," she said. "I love turning old stuff into new." Demonstrates why she was interested in this site in Detroit - an old gas station. Good for her!
