The annual County Builders’ and Remodelers’ Show, held each year in Washtenaw County as winter turns to spring, features much more than building and remodeling, and this year the name has been changed to reflect that. The Home, Garden and Lifestyle Show will offer everything from awnings to wine cellars, and billiards to house paint. The show will be held March 19-21 at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds, 5055 Ann Arbor Saline Road, in Lodi Township.

“We are trying to adapt to the times,” said Pete Nowakowski, marketing and communications director with the Builders & Remodelers Association of Greater Ann Arbor, which sponsors the show. Andrea Sullivan, meeting and events director, said the old name was too limiting. “We have so many different areas, from pet containment with invisible fences to a man new this year who installs wine rooms,” she said. Sullivan said she hopes the name change will attract a broader crowd. “We want it to be for more than just people who have a home and want to fix it. We want them to know they can find information on leisure activities such as hot tubs and pool tables,” she said. Despite the economy, exhibitors have lined up to be part of the show. It’s about 95 percent sold out, Sullivan said. Last year there were about 6,000 visitors. The show will include a number of garden and landscape exhibitors expected to fill an entire building with paver patios, garden walls, waterfalls, flora and more. This will be the first year Twin Oaks Landscape Inc. will exhibit at the show. The business's exhibit will include a brick paver floor, a decorative arbor, outdoor furniture and a freestanding garden wall made of precast tumbled concrete block. Twin Oaks will also offer a whiff of spring with a display of hyacinth and tulips. While Twin Oaks has been around for 15 years installing landscapes, it’s just been the last couple of years the company has offered one-stop service by adding a design center, said Dan Quinn, landscape designer. The show will help Twin Oaks get that word out. Other exhibitors will include interior designers, home security providers, and installers of skylights and metal roofs. There are even a couple of chiropractors, Sullivan said, who fall under the “lifestyles” section of the show. Architects, builders and remodelers will promote green building. There will also be a collaborative project between Comfort One Heating and Cooling, Adaptive Building Solutions, CCI Excavating and Spring Arbor Lumber for a green project that will include a geothermal heating exhibit and other green features, Sullivan said.
