Job openings in higher education still on the rise as people head back to school

By Lizzy Alfs

With more people heading back to school to get that second or third degree, job openings in higher education for faculty and administration are on the rise, Mlive.com reports.

Job postings rose 16.5 percent in the third quarter of 2011, according to a report from HigherEdJobs. Part-time faculty postings were up 18.1 percent, with full-time postings up 12.3 percent.

Although the job postings have increased over the previous quarter, the HigherEdJobs report calls the growth “moderate” compared to the average 63.2 percent growth in 2010.

“Job postings from colleges and universities surged during much of 2010 as institutions recovered from the steep decline in hiring that occurred during the recent recession,” according to the report.
