People & Achievements in the greater Ann Arbor area, including Bodman PLC and The Fabulous Mr. Fixit

The following is a list of achievements by businesses and individuals in the Ann Arbor area:

• Detroit-based law firm Bodman PLC has admitted Sarah J. Williams as a member of the firm. Williams, of Bodman’s Ann Arbor office, is a member of the firm’s business practice group. She represents clients in a range of commercial contractual matters, mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financing and corporate organization matters. Williams joined Bodman in 2004 as an associate attorney.

• The Fabulous Mr. Fixit of Saline was awarded the 2010 Angie’s List Super Service Award, an honor bestowed annually on approximately 5 percent of all the companies rated on the nation’s leading provider of consumer reviews on local service companies. This award is given to those companies giving a consistently high level of customer service. Angie’s List collects consumer reviews on local contractors and service providers in more than 500 service categories. The Fabulous Mr. Fix It has been providing home repairs, handyman services, and home renovations throughout Washtenaw County and Metro Detroit for more than 30 years.

• Cunningham Vision Center, with existing centers in Saline and Tecumseh, will soon open an Arbor center at 1928 W. Stadium Blvd. Staff doctors for CVC are Tom Cunningham and Jeff Rautio.

• NSF International, an independent public health organization based in Ann Arbor, has acquired Pharmalytica Services, a pharmaceutical contract laboratory based in Connecticut. NSF offers dietary supplement training, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) registration, testing and certification services. Pharmalytica provides a full range of analytical services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry from discovery support through commercialization. As part of NSF’s Health Science Division, NSF Pharmalytica will provide analytical testing, consulting, training, registration and research and development services.

• The Huron River Watershed Council recently received a $10,000 grant from Recreational Equipment, Inc., a national outdoor retail co-op, to support HRWC's new River Scouts program. The River Scouts program will focus on the section of the Huron River that runs from the Kent Lake Dam in Kensington Metropark downstream to the Barton Pond in Ann Arbor and includes portions of Davis, Arms and Mill Creeks. REI funds will be used to develop a corps of volunteer paddlers who, starting in May of this year, will monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the Natural Rivers Program and identify opportunities for clean-ups, restoration, and protection. HRWC will also sponsor an annual clean-up of this section of the river. The grant is the result of a nomination made by the Ann Arbor REI store. HRWC is a nonprofit coalition of local communities, businesses, and residents established in 1965 to protect the Huron River and its tributary streams, lakes, wetlands and groundwater.

• The Washtenaw Contractors Association will recognize the outstanding performance of firms and individuals working in the construction industry in Washtenaw County by presenting its PYRAMID Awards in March. The awards will recognize exceptional effort in the areas of teamwork, service and innovation. In addition, the WCA will present the 2011 W. Nelson Vander Hyden Award to an individual who has made significant contributions to both the construction industry and the local community. PYRAMID Awards will be presented in three categories: Best Project Team, Best Subcontractor and Best Innovation. The 2011 nominees in the category for owners of projects are the Charter Township of Commerce, Chelsea Milling Co., Eastern Michigan University, Hindu Temple of Canton, ProQuest LLC, University of Michigan Alumni Association, University of Michigan and Washtenaw County. Nominees for the category of architects and engineers are A3C Collaborative Architecture, BEI & Associates, David Osler Associates Architects, Einhorn Yaffee Prescott, Giffels-Webster Engineers, HNTB, Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Integrated Design Solutions, Lindhout Associates, Robert A.M. Stern Architects, Tower Pinkster Titus Associates and X-nth Inc. Nominees in the category for contractors are A.Z. Shmina Inc., Acoustic Ceiling & Partition, Ann Arbor Ceiling & Partition, Barton Malow Co., Clark Construction Co., Dee Cramer, Granger Construction Co., Irish Construction Co., John E. Green Co., Leidal & Hart Mason Contractors, O'Neal Construction, Phoenix Contractors, Rand Construction Engineering Inc., Shamrock Floorcovering Services, Spence Brothers, Turner Construction Co., United Mill & Cabinet, Walbridge Aldinger and Wiltec Technologies. Winners will be announced during a March 11 awards banquet in Ann Arbor.

• Wagner Design Associates has developed several marketing pieces for the University of Michigan Medical School Office of Research and its business development team. The Ann Arbor-based graphic design firm designed the business development logo and created a pocket folder and flyers that give a comprehensive view of how the team facilitates interactions between faculty and industry partners. Wagner also designed complementary pieces for conference use, including a retractable banner, table drape and giveaways. In addition to the work for the business development team, Wagner also enhanced the Office of Research website with new graphic elements.

• As part of its continued growth, Physicians Health Plan of Mid-Michigan is expanding its service area to include all of Jackson and Hillsdale counties and parts of Washtenaw and Lenawee counties. The not-for-profit health maintenance organization is affiliated with Sparrow Health System. PHP expects to add thousands of new members through the expansion. PHP also administers HIP Michigan, the statewide program to provide high-quality health coverage to chronically uninsured Michigan residents with pre-existing conditions.

• Edward Surovell Realtors, headquartered in Ann Arbor, announced the company’s top producing real estate agents of 2010 at their annual award luncheon, held Feb. 17. The Top Company Sales Award went to Alex Milshteyn, who has been with the company for 12 years. In 2010, he closed 140 transactions for a total of $27 million. Edward Surovell also honored the following leaders who achieved sales of $6 million or more in 2010 with the Leadership Award: Ron Herman, 76 transactions, 11.2 million; Tammy Lehman, 85 transactions, 10.3 million; Andra Anteau, 89 transactions, 9.0 million; Tom Wagner, 131 transactions, 8.6 million; JoAnn Barrett, 32 transactions, 7.2 million; Marc Rubin, 23 transactions, 6.9 million; Mike Begeman, 79 transactions, 6.7 million; Dave Rukkila, 65 transactions, 6.6 million; Carl and Pam Poling, 72 transactions, 6.5 million; Heather Herndon, 58 transactions, 6.2 million; and Scott Harris, 99 transactions, 6.2 million. The Sales Achievement Award was presented to recognize the following agents, who achieved sales of $3 million or more in 2010: Jan Hammond, Candy Mitchell, Zak Mohler, Jack Brown, David Poucher, Paula Mamayek, Gordon Taylor, John and Suzanne Arndt, Kay Prong, The Chris Spencer Team, Miriam Weininger, Alison Robinson Holcombe, Jodie Franklin, Christine Fitzsimons, Hody List, Maryanne Telese, Ellen Cimmino, Nick Bauder, April Gunder, Karen Bellers, David Corder and Lynn Sajdak. Also recognized at the luncheon were Margie Harris, Leading RE Relocation gold certificate awardee, and Ellen Cimmino, American Home Shield top warranty producer.

• CBRE Capital Markets - Debt & Equity Finance arranged financing of $45,000,000 for the construction of a 606-bed luxury student housing project called 601 Forest near the campus of The University of Michigan. The financing was arranged on behalf of a partnership between Chicago-based Campus Acquisitions LLC and Detroit area-based Hughes Development. Harrison Street Real Estate provided the joint venture equity for the partnership. 601 Forest will consist of a 14-story tower located two blocks from the "Diag" and Quad at U-M's Central Campus.

• The Saline Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for Citizen of the Year, Lifetime Achievement and the George A. Anderson Vision Award. The awards will be made April 15 during the chamber-hosted “Saline Salutes,” an event honoring citizens, in areas of service, lifetime achievement and vision with the most widely-respected recognition given to individuals living or working in the Saline Area School District. A youth award also will be selected and presented by the Saline Youth Council. • ProTect Painters of Ann Arbor was recently recognized with the All Star Marketing Team and Race to 100 Top Sales Producer awards at the 2011 ProTect Painters Franchise Convention recently held in Las Vegas. The first award recognizes franchise owners who researched their market, developed a traditional marketing plan and then worked their plan.
Owner John Demetriou and his ProTect Painters of Ann Arbor also received the Race to 100 Top Sales Producer award. Demetriou received this award because he produced the highest amount of gross revenue in the system for Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2010.

• The Charles Reinhart Co. held its annual awards luncheon Feb. 10 at Barton Hills Country Club, celebrating the accomplishments of 170 agents and six office managers. The top earning agents of 2010 were honored with the prestigious Charles Reinhart Award. Earning the award were Elizabeth Brien, Lisa Stelter, Fran Jones, Michal Porath, Rob Ewing, Ed Ridha, Nicki Noel, Dick Mattie, Brent Flewelling, Debbie Leutheuser, Carolyn Lepard, Tammi Ebenhoeh, Kim Peoples, Ren Snyder, Susan Snyder, Christine Faeth, Rick Jarzembowski, Barbara Eichmuller and Todd Lands. Receiving the Rookie of the Year award was Tim Powell from the Ann Arbor West Office.

• Ann Arbor Mortgage, in conjunction with the Charles Reinhart Co., held their Annual Awards Luncheon Feb. 10 at Barton Hills Country Club.
Ann Arbor Mortgage is a mortgage banker that established in 1996. During the luncheon, Ann Arbor Mortgage President Bill Holmes presented Mary Frisinger, senior loan officer, with the Highest Production Award. Frisinger has been with Ann Arbor Mortgage since 1999. Throughout her career, she has closed loans in excess of $100,000,000.

• Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed Beth Fitzsimmons to the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents, replacing former Regent Mohamed Okdie, who resigned on Feb. 7.

• Alison Davis-Blake will be the new Edward J. Frey Dean of the Ross School of Business, effective Aug. 22, pending approval from the University of Michigan Board of Regents. Davis-Blake is the current dean of the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
