People & Achievements in the greater Ann Arbor area, including Dickinson Wright and Oxford Property Management

The following is a list of achievements by businesses and individuals in the Ann Arbor area:

• Detroit-based Dickinson Wright PLLC recenly added attorney William M. Thacker as a member of the firm. Thacker practices labor and employment law, with an emphasis on health care and educational institutions, and will be located in the firm's Ann Arbor office.

• Oxford Property Management, a commercial property management firm serving Washtenaw and Livingston counties, took over the management of the shopping center at 2101 W. Stadium Blvd. in Ann Arbor in Januar. The 73,480 square foot complex, anchored by Ace Barnes Hardware and Arbor Farms Market, is commonly known as Boulevard Plaza.

• The Chelsea-Area Wellness Foundation is accepting grant applications through the foundation's Web site, www.5healthy towns.org. All non-profit organizations in the foundation's service area - Chelsea, Dexter, Grass Lake, Manchester and Stockbridge - are eligible for grant funding for qualifying programs. Applications for sponsorships and “mini-grants” (under $5,000) are also available through the Web site, with each community allotted up to $10,000 per year in mini-grants.

• Ann Arbor-based PR Services Inc. recently announced the completion of a pro bono project for the St. Louis Center, a Chelsea-based residential facility for mentally and physically challenged men and women, boys and girls. PR Services donated the creation of a video celebrating the organization's 50th anniversary. In related news, PR Services has been retained by Kara Laramie of Bloomfield Hills, a retail and personal consultant whose business is called "Just Call Kara."

• In early February, awards were presented to sales associates of the Charles Reinhart Co. in recognition of 2009 productivity. A total of 64 agents were honored for sales of $2 million or more during the year. Recipients of the Charles Reinhart Award, given annually to the company’s top producers, were: Elizabeth Brien, Lisa Stelter, Fran Jones, Susan and Ren Snyder, Debra and Roger Leutheuser, Edward and Lisa Ridha, Robert Ewing, Sherry Grammatico, Shiao Ling Chu, Brent Flewelling, Carolyn Lepard, Nicki Noel, Kim Peoples, Bruce Maxson, Jeri Sawall, Maria Gilbert Anglin, Mary Ellen Wood, Jeff Klink, Sheila Shulman and Rick Taylor. Top producers for 2009 were Brien, with $48.3 million in sales and Jones, with $14 million. Noel received a cumulative award for surpassing $200 million in career sales.

• Ann Arbor-based Architectural Resource LLC recently announced that is moving to a new and greener office at 2301 Platt Road, Ste. 30, Ann Arbor.

• Adams Outdoor Advertising has donated an advertising package worth $18,000 to promote the Bowl For Kids’ Sake fundraiser that benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washtenaw County. The outdoor advertising campaign will run during the two months leading up to the March 20 event and is expected to be seen by 80,000 people a day. • The International ATHENA Foundation has selected its 2010 Athena Award Recipient and has chosen three women to participate in the ATHENAPowerLink Program in 2010. Michelle Richards, executive director of the Center for Empowerment and Economic Development for the past 20 years, has been selected to receive the Athena Award, given to a person who has exhibited excellence in her business or profession and who consistently assists women in achieving their full potential. The three women who will participate in the ATHENA PowerLink Program in 2010 are Carol Kamm, president of iSold It on Ebay of Ann Arbor; Megan Torrance, president and founder of Torrance Learning in Chelsea; and Laura Spear, president of Washtenaw Door and Trim in Ypsilanti. The ATHENAPowerLink program helps women-owned businesses expand profitably through the use of professional advisory panels.

• Phoenix Contact engineers in Pennsylvania and Michigan shared their enthusiasm for science with students during National Engineers Week, Feb. 14 through 20. In Ann Arbor, employees from Phoenix Contact's automation sales and software development office in Ann Arbor worked with the seventh- and eighth-grade classes at Ann Arbor Open school. Students learned about the history of manufacturing and began work on the "mini-factory" project, a desktop model of a production line that includes a conveyor and some simple robots.

• The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County recently hired Christina Schroeder Levleit as program director at the Ken & Marianna Staples Family Center. The Staples Family Center is the nonprofit's homeless shelter for families and is one of only two family centers in Washtenaw County.

• Arbor Hospice has appointed six new members to its board of directors. Cindy Livesay of Saline is senior vice president of credit administration at Bank of Ann Arbor and also a member of the finance committee for Ann Arbor’s Michigan Theatre. Sandra Nielsen of Canton is director of Eastern Michigan University’s Professional Education Center within the school’s College of Business and is also involved with Habitat for Humanity and Ascension Lutheran Church. Bill O’Neil of Allen Park is a self-employed financial planner, former Wayne County Commissioner and past State Representative for the 24th District in the downriver area. David C. Smith of Ann Arbor is a professor of medicine and urology at University of Michigan’s Comprehensive Cancer Center and is also involved with Washtenaw Land Trust & Meals on Wheels. Annette Tenerelli-Lemke of Dexter is a partner and director of tax department at Plante & Moran’s Ann Arbor office, with a concentration in private equity and venture capital fund. Becky Wallace of Ann Arbor is a manager at Rhoades Doehrer & Associates Certified Public Accountants in Saline and has 28 years experience in accounting, health care and banking.

• Ann Arbor-based Borders has provided more than 900,000 new books to children across the nation through its company-wide, community-based winter book drive. The books were purchased by Borders customers and then distributed by Borders and Waldenbooks stores to local nonprofits across the country.

• Three Michigan companies recently received a combined total of $95,000 through the Michigan Microloan Fund Program. Buycentives, CIMple Integrations and Local Orbit received the funding to support commercialization of their core products. Ann Arbor-based Buycentives helps manufacturers deliver customized sales incentives to online car shoppers during the shopping process. CIMple Integrations' focus is to become the leading provider of system integration software products in support of advanced metering infrastructure and smart grid initiatives. Local Orbit, an Ann Arbor company, connects restaurants, institutions and individuals with local farmers and food producers in one online location.

• Domino's Pizza, headquartered in Ann Arbor, raised $2 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital during the 2009 Thanks and Giving campaign. This marks the largest single charitable donation in the history of Domino's Pizza.

• Ann Arbor-based Thomson Reuters and Ingenious Med Inc. of Atlanta have combined their clinical workflow offerings into a unified billing solution for hospitals and physician practices.The solution weds Clinical Xpert Navigator from Thomson Reuters and IM Practice Manager from Ingenious Med and will help hospital clinicians improve inpatient billing efficiency and accuracy.
