Pet supply store opens on Ypsilanti's Michigan Avenue
By Julie Baker
Wright Brand Pet Supplies opened this month on Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti, the Ypsilanti Courier reports.
Ypsilanti-area native and shop owner James Wright told the newspaper he is hoping to fill a niche in the community.
The shop opened in the former Mantis Pet Supply building, 1145 W. Michigan Ave., which closed last year.

This sounds just like Mantis in their glory days even down to possibly the same Kendra. I hope this new place doesn't rely on pre-ordering dog food because that's exactly why I left Mantis and started going to PSP and other like places.

One thing he can do is secure a position with a rescue group. This will be bring some business. I know one of who does do this. Place is packed when they hold their adoption day. Good luck to the new business. I hope they do well.

At the Ypsilanti Press online comment section about this story, one annonymous writer (funny how people refuse to stand their statements using their real name) said that basically they would not be going to "that section of town" and would rather go to Canton to a pet store chain there. Gee, great. Spend your money out of town at a national chain rather than at a local business out of some unrealistic fear of something or another.

Also, for pets with certain allergies, you can only get their food from the chains. If this place stocks my dogs food and can beat or get close to Petco in price, i'll switch.

Don't be so quick to judge "the chains". . . Pet Supplie Plus is headquartered in Michigan (Livonia) and employs many of our friends and neighbors in both corporate support functions and in corporate stores through out the State. PSP also offers franchising opportunities for local entrepreneurs who want to own their own business. Best of luck to Mr. Wright, the consumer is always the winner in competitive free markets.

Nice to see a new business opening. Just heard Country Market in Saline Closing.
