Retired Washtenaw County Road Commission managing director receives merit award

Recently-retired Washtenaw County Road Commission managing director Steve Puuri was presented with a Merit Award at the County Road Association of Michigan 2012 Annual Highway Conference.

Merit Awards recognize the volunteer efforts of CRAM members who dedicate considerable time and commitment to provide educational opportunities for the membership.

Puuri was recognized for his service in chairing the transparency committee. This special committee was appointed by the CRAM board of directors to evaluate performance measures consistent among road commissions and develop an internet "dashboard" for county road agencies.

Puuri’s expertise was previously recognized when he was named the 2002 ASCE Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year.

Puuri’s and his wife, Jamie, have three children. He is active in coaching his community junior high baseball and football teams, and serves as Dexter Little League Baseball president.

The County Road Association of Michigan represents the interests of Michigan’s 83 county road agencies that collectively manage more than 75 percent of all roads in Michigan.
