Saline auto supplier JAC Products leases 46,500-square-foot warehouse

By Nathan Bomey

Auto supplier JAC Products Inc. struck a deal to lease a 46,500-square-foot warehouse on Woodland Drive in Saline, real estate firm Signature Associates announced Friday.

The deal expands JAC Products' presence in Saline. The company, which was acquired in late 2010 by Chicago-based private equity firm Wynnchurch Capital Ltd., employs 412 workers at its 180,000-square-foot warehouse on Industrial Drive.

"They leased this warehouse space to accommodate off-site storage of older model year parts and tools, which they need to maintain for servicing the aftermarket needs," Signature's Jay Chavey said in an email.

JAC Products moved its warehouse from Manchester to Saline "to save cost and convenience," Chavey said.

Signature's Chavey and Brad Viergever represented the warehouse property owner, auto supplier DURA Automotive Systems Inc., in the transaction. Chavey and Signature's Joe Hamway and Steve Gordon represented JAC Products.

JAC Products recently received a $572,970 tax credit from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and a tax abatement from the city of Saline to support a 30,000-square-foot addition to the company's manufacturing facility. JAC Products has said it would add 87 jobs in the expansion.

The company specializes in roof rack manufacturing for major automakers like Toyota, Ford, Chrysler, Nissan and Hyundai.

The 180,000 square foot facility on Industrial Drive is a plastic injection molding facility. The office attached houses JAC's corporate headquarters. Also, JAC leases the 60,000 square foot building to the North, and that is where they assemble their product.
