Way 1 Super Market coming to Plymouth Road Mall in northeast Ann Arbor
The Plymouth Road Mall shopping center in northeast Ann Arbor soon will be home to a new specialty grocer, Way 1 Super Market.
The store's sign has marked the building for some time, though it's been hard to gauge progress due to the paper covering the windows.
The store space was left vacant after the closing of Bella Vino, which anchored the Mall until its closing in January 2009. Bella Vino reported the economy’s downturn and rival specialty grocers as two main reasons for its departure at the time.
Ted Lee, the owner of Way 1 Super Market, told AnnArbor.com that its “hard to say” when the store will be ready to open, as he continues with development and inspections of the property, admitting that the process has taken longer than he had hoped.
Realtor Bela Sipos, who represents the mall and works for Reinhart Commercial, says Lee has been working at getting the store up and running for about six months now.
Way 1 Super Market will occupy 18,000 sq ft of property when it opens, and will specialize in Asian grocery needs.

I'm happy for the owners, and the people this store will employ! But, there is no mention of the store's specialty, a2.com.

@Angela Smith: I am under the impression that Way 1 is owned by the same family that owns China Merchandise. Please correct me if I am wrong. @Marshall Applewhite: I would hope that the owners of China Merchandise have a non-compete clause in their lease contract prohibiting the mall from allowing a competing Asian grocer to open within the same complex....

I'm interested to see how two Asian grocery stores can coexist in the same building. Either way, it's good to have more of them.

I'm pleased to see this new store! A worker told me some time ago that May 1 was the target date for opening.
