Women's boutique opens at Briarwood Mall in former BabyGap space

By Lizzy Alfs

A women’s boutique, White House Black Market, opened at Ann Arbor’s Briarwood Mall last week in the former BabyGap store.

The retailer opened in a 2,460-square-foot space in the center of the mall, next to Sunglasses Hut, on July 28.

The storefront became available after the mall consolidated its Gap and BabyGap stores into a single space, said Denise Murray, director of marketing and business development for Briarwood.

Since opening, Murray said White House Black Market has been “really well received.”

“White House Black Market is a perfect fit for Briarwood Mall,” Murray said in a release. “The addition of White House Black Market will offer customers a go-to destination for chic, classic fashion.”

White House Black Market is a Chico’s-owned retail chain that started in 1985 in Baltimore. The store carries clothing and accessories in mostly shades of black and white. There are more than 300 locations nationwide, with nearby boutiques in Brighton and Livonia.

Other changes at Briarwood include the recent opening of Ann Taylor LOFT.

Murray said the mall’s leasing and management teams have been working to attract higher-end merchants in response to consumer demand.

“We continue to make adjustments to our merchant mix in order to meet the wants and needs of our shoppers,” Murray said in a recent report.

Especially the "Dead Sea Cosmetics" kiosk. Talk about pushy!

I'm so glad Briarwood is getting some nicer stores so I don't have to drive to Sommerset! It's so simple to shop when everything is either black or white. Time for some retail therapy, see you in the mall!
