Ann Arbor Civic Theatre seeks original plays for upcoming The Play's the Thing festival
Ann Arbor Civic Theatre has announced a playwriting, play reading festival, scheduled for Feb. 18-20, called The Play’s the Thing.
The festival is an opportunity for playwrights to have their works read, discussed, and re-worked; in addition, it’s an opportunity for the audience to hear new works and provide feedback to the playwrights.
Each performance features a different type of play: "Show Me Your Shorts," a series of 10-minute plays; "One is the Loneliest Number," one-act plays; and "I Can’t Believe I Read the Whole Thing," a full-length play. A2CT is looking for submissions of new works or original adaptations.
Plays may be a series of 10-minute vignettes, one-act plays, or full-length plays. There is no fee to enter scripts, but writers are limited to submitting one full-length play, two one-acts, or six 10-minute plays.
The deadline for submissions is Jan. 24 at 3 p.m. Selections for the readings will be chosen by January 31. Those submitting scripts need to be available the weekend of February 18-20 to attend the reading of his or her work. Playwrights whose scripts are chosen for The Play’s the Thing will have the opportunity to meet with the facilitator of their reading the week of February 1.
