'American Teacher' screening offers Q&A with star and author

By AnnArbor.com Staff

826michigan and the Michigan Theater are co-hosting a special screening of a documentary film about public education, narrated by Matt Damon and produced by Dave Eggers and Ninive Calegari (founders of the 826 National program).

"American Teacher" profiles 4 teachers in under-resourced public classrooms; demonstrates the big sacrifices teachers make every day; and the incredible challenges to students currently in our system. The film screens just once: on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Michigan Theater.

One of the film's stars, Jonathan Dearman, will be at the screening, as will Daniel Moulthrop, whose book was the basis for the film. There will be a Q & A with the 2 following the film.

We teachers would be there, but we're too busy creating lessons, grading papers and looking for ways for each of our students to be continuously and successfully learning.
