Ann Arbor Civic Theatre announces auditions for 'Sweeney Todd'
Ann Arbor Civic Theatre announces auditions for the Sondheim musical "Sweeney Todd," directed by Rachel Francisco. Auditions take place Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m., and Monday, March 19 at 7 p.m., with callbacks beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 21.
In "Sweeney Todd," the titular "demon barber of Fleet Street" comes home after being exiled by an evil judge who banished him and ravaged Sweeney’s wife. With the help of the diabolical baker, Mrs. Lovett, Sweeney seeks revenge on the judge, and the unwitting inhabitants of London develop an insatiable taste for “meat” pies.
There are featured roles for 3 women and 6 men, ages 18-70, plus a large ensemble for those ages 18 and up. Those auditioning need attend only one of the regular auditions but should be available for callbacks, should be prepared to dance, and should prepare 32 bars of a Sondheim song (nothing from "Sweeney Todd"); a musical theater song; or a mid-late 20th century American opera. Production dates are June 7-10. All auditions take place at the A2CT Rehearsal Studio, 322 W. Ann St.
