Ann Arbor Civic Theatre seeks directors and original scripts
Ann Arbor Civic Theatre is seeking directors for its 2012-13 Studio Series, as well as original scripts for its play writing and reading festival, The Play’s the Thing.
The Studio Series is a series of 2-3 productions in the A2CT rehearsal studio/Studio Theater. This intimate (40 seat capacity) theater is perfect for small cast, lesser-known, edgier plays than are offered in Civic’s main season. These shows can be staged readings or simple full productions. They may be established plays or original plays.
Anyone interested in submitting a play to direct for the 2012-13 Studio Series should read the guidelines and download an application at www.a2ct.org. Applications are due by noon on Friday, March 30.
Also, back by popular demand is A2CT’s playwriting, play reading festival, The Play’s the Thing. The festival is an opportunity for playwrights to have their works read, discussed, and reworked. It’s an opportunity for the audience to hear new works and to give feedback to the playwrights. A2CT is looking for submissions of new works or original adaptations.
There is no entry fee, and plays may be a series of 10-minute vignettes, one-act plays, or full-length plays, and the deadline for submissions is 3 p.m. on April 13. Selections for the readings will be chosen by April 27.
Those submitting scripts need to be available the weekend of the festival, June 15-17, to attend the reading of his or her work. Playwrights whose scripts are chosen for The Play’s the Thing will have the opportunity to meet with the facilitator of their reading prior to the festival. For complete guidelines and application, visit the A2CT website at www.a2ct.org or call the office at 734-971-2228.
