Lisa Pappas and Michael Weiss play the AnnArbor.com patio on Friday.

AnnArbor.com's free, outdoor Summer Concert Series goes folk this week with the folk duo Lisa Pappas (vocals, guitar, mandolin) and Michael Weiss (vocals, guitar, bass, fiddle).

The two perform an eclectic mix of folk-rock originals, alt-country classics, and traditional songs. They'll play a lunchtime concert at noon this Friday, June 17, on the patio at AnnArbor.com's community space, 301 E. Liberty St. (at Fifth Avenue).

According to her online biography, Pappas received her first acoustic guitar and wrote her first song at age 12. She's been writing and performing music ever since—inspired by such artists as Bonnie Raitt, Patty Griffin and the Indigo Girls.

Now an Ann Arbor resident, Pappas began performing at cafes while attending Michigan State University in the 1980s. She recorded her first CD of original material, "Stranger in Town," in 1998. "Harvest of Life" followed in 2002.

"Music is probably my greatest joy, and its even better when I realize how it can impact others," she says. "It's an honor when folks come me after a gig to say how much they related to a particular song, as though it was written especially for them. Things like that make all this crazy songwriting and giggin stuff truly worth while."

AnnArbor'com's Summer Concert Series continues at noon each Friday throughout the summer. Check out our Summer Concert Series homepage for more information.
