Artists sought for this year's Sculpture Walk Chelsea

By Lisa Allmendinger

“Sculpture Walk Chelsea,” an annual public arts project in the city, is seeking applications from artists for this year’s public art display.

Sponsored by the Chelsea Downtown Development Authority, the City of Chelsea, Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights, and River Gallery, 10 sculptures will be juried into the exhibit. They will then be installed outdoors, on concrete pads in locations throughout historic downtown Chelsea.

Online and print brochures will be provided to the public to inspire self-guided walking tours of the exhibit, according to information about the tour.

In addition, guided docent tours will also be available through the Chelsea District Library and River Gallery.

The applications are due by April 14 and the project will go on display on June 7 celebrated by an artist’s reception hosted by the River Gallery, sponsored by the community partners and will be a feature of the 8th annual “Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights.”

All work must be for sale and remain in the exhibit from June 2012 through May 2013.

Each artist will receive a $350 stipend.
