Last week on "The Biggest Loser" (3-minute recap):
As the contestants marked their first month of their weight-loss journeys, they received the shocking news that Miggy — whose daughter Migdalia was eliminated last week — was sent to the hospital, citing abdominal pain. Ultimately, the doctors diagnosed appendicitis, and later in the episode Miggy returned relatively pain-free and a vestigial organ lighter (even taking a 13-mile walk on her first night back).
But the show must go on, and as promised when they were cut during the first episode, the blue and yellow teams returned to the ranch to step on the scales and determine which duo made the most weight-loss progress from home would return to the televised competition — a twist previously not revealed to the rest of the hopefuls. They were also welcomed back with some surprises: the returning team would win immunity, guaranteeing them at least 2 weeks at the ranch, and would be the only team voting in the elimination round.
The blue team, mother and daughter Cherita and Victoria, lost a total of 63 pounds or (9.92 percent) back home. But they fell short of yellow team, father and daughter O'Neal and Sunshine, who shed 76 pounds (or 11.45 percent) and rejoined the gang at the ranch. And true to the show, O'Neal shared some inspirational words as the blue team were sent home for the last time.

From left, Andrea and Darrell dig deep during the week's last chance workout.
Ann Arbor-based competitors Andrea and Darrell joined trainer Bob and the members of the yellow team to talk about comfort food and how to adapt it for a healthier lifestyle. Darrell talked about associating comfort food with family gatherings, but warmed to the nutritious alternative of turkey sausage that Bob shared with the group.
The first challenge of the episode took inspiration from football's biggest night, in which one member of each team had to take on a tackling dummy. Immunity went to the first team to reach 1,000 hits, and a 1-pound disadvantage to each member of the last-place team. Andrea, citing her experience playing and coaching softball, stepped up for this one. She matched the pace of her competitors for most of the challenge, but couldn't surpass challenge winner Michael (last man standing on team white), who followed a smart strategy of keeping his feet planted so he'd tire less quickly. Conversely, the pink team of mother and daughter Sherry and Ashley came in last.
Visiting with the on-site doctor, Miggy was concerned to learn that the appendectomy saddled her with 8 or 9 pounds of saline. But for daughter Ashley, the obstacle this week was her emotions, as she opened up to trainer Jillian about using food as a way to cope with the complicated relationship she had with her now-deceased father. Meanwhile, team purple's Stephanie (whose mother Patti was eliminated earlier in the competition) bonded with the recently-returned team yellow member, Sunshine. One thing all the hopefuls had in common, though, was a heightened anxiety about the week's weigh-in.
At the fateful weigh-in, Andrea and Darrell lost 13 pounds and 2.1%, bringing their overall total to 106 pounds shed. Andrea, who lost 5 pounds this week, was frustrated at her progress, having worked out more this week but losing the same amount as the week before. But as the trainers pointed out, she and Darrell were safe for another week and could continue to raise the intensity of their workout routines. John, carrying the torch for the brown team after his brother James was voted off, lost the least weight this week, making the voting portion of the program a moot point. Having become a good friend to most of the hopefuls, it was a sad goodbye, but James left with the tools to continue his transformation from home.
