Local nonprofit writing and tutoring center 826michigan announces a new date for its second annual festival of student-written one-act plays, "Five Bowls of Oatmeal: The Return of Oatmeal."

Presented by 826michigan and the University of Michigan MFA Program in Creative Writing, the festival will feature award-winning author and 826 founder Dave Eggers, who will interview student playwrights between acts, as well as members of The Penny Seats Theater Company, who will perform staged readings of five original one-act plays.

The event will be held at Rackham Auditorium (913 E. Washington St.) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 17. The plays, written by 826michigan students aged 8-18, each star a bowl of oatmeal, as well as a full complement of colorful characters. Tickets for this event cost $7 for adults, $3 for youths aged 6-18, and children under 5 will be admitted free.

“We are thrilled to announce that Dave Eggers will be joining us for this year’s Five Bowls of Oatmeal festival of one-act plays,” said 826michigan executive director Amanda Uhle in a press release. “We can’t wait to see all of our students’ creative ideas come to life on the stage, and are grateful to our sponsors for helping to make that happen.”
