Today Discover the Joy of Soy. 5:30-7 p.m. Ellen Thompson Women's Health Center, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, 5320 Elliott Drive, Ypsilanti. Explore how to use different types of soy products to make flavorful, healthy meals. Prepare and eat a meal that includes Sweet and Sour Soy, Sesame Lime Glazed Tofu, Vegetarian Nacho Casserole and Tempeh Wraps. $39. Thursday Night Rush Hour Relief at the Wine Bar. 5-7 p.m. Cranbrook Whole Foods, 990 W. Eisenhower Parkway, Ann Arbor. Each Thursday evening, experts lead an exploration of wine, cheese and appetizers. This week's topic: Cabernet Blends. $17.

Healthy Cooking: Lentils. 6 p.m. Cranbrook Whole Foods, 990 W. Eisenhower Parkway, Ann Arbor. A discussion of the many varieties of lentils that are available and a demonstration of how to optimally prepare them in many dishes from all over the world. $5. Ketchup, Mustard and Salad Dressing: Preserving Traditions. 2-4 p.m. Pittsfield Grange, 3337 Ann Arbor-Saline Road, Ann Arbor. Learn to make basic condiments with Preserving Traditions. This will be part demo, part hands-on workshop; but there will be a number of varieties to sample. Bring at least half a cup each of any type of vinegar and oil. Join in for an afternoon of cake info and tasting with Ann Arbor cake artist Heather Anne Leavitt. Heather is a cook at Eve, The Restaurant, in Kerrytown. Fans of TV cooking shows will recognize her as an assistant to Courtney Clark of Cake Nouveau on several Food Network Challenges. Beefsteak Dinner circa 1888. 7 p.m. Zingerman's Roadhouse, 2501 Jackson Ave., Ann Arbor. To celebrate an American tradition reaching back over a century to New York City, the Roadhouse welcomes food historian Jan Longone who will talk about the lost tradition of the beefsteak dinner.
