Dave Boutette, David Menefee and Frank Allison play at the Yellow Barn on Saturday.

Three of Ann Arbor's notable musical talents — Frank Allison, Dave Boutette and David Menefee — plan a special joint appearance Saturday night at the Yellow Barn on the west edge of downtown.

A press release about the show promises "a very laid back townie night of music ... It's the first time this particular trio has been assembled beyond casual picking at campfires or local open stages, and promises to be a very special night of music for listeners who enjoy a good tune, a good tale, and a good time."

Allison, of the legendary Frank Allison and the Odd Sox, ruled the Ann Arbor club scene in the late '80's and early '90's with a wry stage presence and beautifully crafted pop tunes. He's back in the game these days with new tunes and a rekindled excitement in his performance.

Menefee has been crooning his way into the heart of Ann Arbor since the late '60s, as well as building stone chimneys throughout the state, and starring in the Michigan-based musical "The North Country Opera." Menefee holds a lexicon of American song craft in his set list and delivers the tunes in a charming, age-old easy manner.

Boutette has been a fixture on the Michigan acoustic songwriter scene for many years, performing his upbeat mixture of folk, swing, and country tinged songs at music festivals, saloons, and listening rooms across the state.

Each performer will do a short set or two, and with some encouragement, they'll likely do a few tunes as a trio.

The Tree Town Troubadour Trio plays at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Yellow Barn, 416 W. Huron St. Suggested donation: $6. Directions: Headed west out of downtown Ann Arbor on Huron Street, take the first driveway to the right after the train trestle. The Yellow Barn is tucked in at the back of the parking lot.

It is always very pleasing to read about Dave and his musical performances. I am sure that this special event is good entertainment. It is a beautiful Spring Day and enjoy it with Dave's singing.
