Local musician Frank Allison will play a concert Thursday night at the Clinton Theater, which his family owns, in a benefit to start raising money for a digital projection system.

Allison led the popular local party band Frank Allison and the Odd Sox in the 1980s and '90s, but he retired from music in 1996 due to a medical condition called spasmodic dysphonia that left him unable to sing. According to his website, he's been learning to work around the condition and lately has been performing several public gigs.

"We love film, and will continue to play film as long as we can. The theater has been running 35mm film since 1939," Allison wrote in a post on his website. "But the writing is on the wall—we will eventually need a giant pile of money just to get the digital downpayment together."

The event promises some "oddball cartoons" in addition to the music. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the fun starting at 7 p.m. The theater is located at 132 W. Michigan Ave. (US-12) in Clinton. Admission is $5.
