In Tall Buildings plays Woodruff's on Friday.

Friday night's show at Woodruff's in Ypsilanti features a four-band lineup led by Chicago's In Tall Buildings — a project led by former local Erik Hall. He's a member of NOMO, the popular local band once that is now also based in Chicago; he's also a University of Michigan graduate and onetime cheesemonger at Zingerman's.

Recently featured on Chicago Public Radio, In Tall Buildings has more of a rock edge than the jazzy NOMO. A free single, "Warm Rock," is available for free download on the In Tall Buildings website.

In addition to NOMO, Hall has also played with familiar local names Saturday Looks Good To Me and His Name Is Alive,

In Talll Buildings' self-titled debut released last April made several year-end lists including the #5 spot on Huffington Post's "Best of Chicago 2010: The Best Local Music Of The Year" and Loud Loup Press' Ross Meyerson's Top 10 of 2010. Chicago Tribune recently named In Tall Buildings one of "15 Chicago Artists To Watch In 2011."

In Tall Buildings recently performed at 35 Conferette, SXSW and to a sold out crowd at First Avenue in Minneapolis with The Rural Alberta Advantage and James Vincent McMorrow.

Doors open at 9 p.m., music at 10, Friday at Woodruff's, 36 E. Cross St. in Ypsilanti. Cover: $5. Swimsuit, City Center and Secret Twins are also on the bill.
