"Red Dawn" remake needs extras

By Jenn McKee

A remake of the 1984 film "Red Dawn" — the story of a group of teens who form an impromptu insurgency when their hometown is invaded by Cuban and Russian soldiers — will be filmed in Southeast Michigan from early September into December, and filmmakers are now seeking extras (age 18 and over).

To apply, email reddawnextras@gmail.com with your name, age, height, weight, relevant experience, complete contact information and a recent photo or two; you may also join the “Red Dawn Extras” group on Facebook.

Of course, it's fitting, in a way, that the film is being redone in Michigan. After all, the group's battle cry is "Wolverines!" (The original was set in Colorado.) Check it out in the 1984 film's original trailer:

The "Red Dawn" info on the Michigan Film Office site didn't mention anything about age restrictions for extras, but I'll now add your info, Ana. Thanks for the tip.

An important fact to avoid disappointment for teen males: extras must be at least 18 years old, according to Ryan, who is handling the email for the Red Dawn extras casting call. My son and his friend were very let down to find out that 16 and 17 was too young to be cast as extras. This information should have been included in the article.

Dude! Best. Movie. Ever. Picked it up on DVD a few years back and have watched it a few times since. Wish I still lived in MI to try to be *in* the remake! And I was just talking with a friend about the film business in Michigan and literally said, "They could so easily shoot a post-apocalyptic movie in Detroit!" Perhaps this is it.

Good catch, jimmycav. I've made the change. Thanks for this correction.

I don't want to trouble you with things like facts, but this is incorrect: "the story of a group of teens who form an impromptu insurgency when their hometown is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers" In the original 1984 version, the town was invaded by Russian and Cuban soldiers, not Chinese.

WOLVERINES!! Sorry, I had to say that. And C. Thomas Howell better get a cameo, or the remake just won't feel right.
