Scottish folk-pop band The Proclaimers to play The Ark

By Ann Dwyer

A new generation of television and movie writers who came of age in the '90s seems to be taking over. Naturally, whenever their characters get nostalgic for their teen years, the song "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" gets cued up.

Proclaimers
So it's only fitting that The Proclaimers, the band behind the song, should play The Ark on Friday.

Led by the Scottish identical twins Craig and Charlie Reid, the band is touring after the release of their new album, "Like Comedy." While we longer hear them every day everywhere we go, they have an impressive discography that stretches back to 1987.

Make no mistake, "500 Miles" was no fluke. Their music is just as raucous and infectious as the song that has made them a generational touchstone.

Folk-rock poet JP Jones will open.

Friday, April 19, 2013. 8 p.m. $25. The Ark is located at 316 S. Main St., Ann Arbor. 734-761-1800.
