Telecaster titan Bill Kirchen will play the Ark; the Saline Community Fair keeps summer going

The AnnArbor.com Summer Concert Series on Friday will feature The Thornbills. Noon-1 p.m. Bring your lunch and enjoy the sounds of summer. A folk/rock group featuring Tamara Finley and Jim Wiegand. Jack White called them up to record a single for his label, Third Man Records. Since then, they’ve shared a stage with Wanda Jackson, The Black Belles, Jeff the Brotherhood, and Pujol to name a few. Free. On the patio on the corner of South Fifth Avenue and East Liberty Street in downtown Ann Arbor.

The Summer Classic Film Series will present "Pan's Labryinth" at the Michigan Theater on Sunday. 1:30 p.m. There will be an encore screening on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Convinced by Pan that she is the lost princess of legend and that in order to return to her underground home she must complete a trio of life-threatening tasks, Ofelia sets out to reclaim her kingdom and return to her grieving father General admission: $10. Ann Arbor-bred Telecaster titan Bill Kirchen will perform at The Ark on Friday. 8 p.m. He whirls through a whole gallery of country and rock styles over the course of an evening. Bill has evolved into a very skillful rockabilly and country songwriter as well, one who praised his trademark Telecaster guitar as "born at the junction of form and function." The Saline Community Fair continues through Monday at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds. This old-fashioned community fair features agricultural and craft exhibits, rides, and a variety of special events. Fiddlers Re-Strung performs Friday night.
